Operation Nora
Victoria Police are zeroing in on Melbourne’s inner north and south east this week as part of Operation Nora, an annual week-long blitz to enforce road rules and reduce risky behaviour. They’re particularly focusing on known black spot areas where collisions are more likely, and drivers and bike riders caught flouting the road rules can expect on the spot fines.

Bicycle Network has this morning launched it’s newest event, Ride the Night. At midnight, 1 February 2015, riders will have the opportunity to explore Melbourne’s iconic locations by moonlight.
Hobart to Richmond
Two candidates in Hobart local council elections, Helen Burnet and Jen Van-Achteren, are calling for improvements to be made on the current bike route from Hobart to Richmond, which would significantly boost cycle tourism in the area. According to Van-Achteren: “It’s an attractive and rideable route avoiding busy roads. But unfortunately, there are some difficult spots and connections, and signage is needed to help cyclists find the way”.

Cargo bikes catching on
Cargo bikes may already be big in Europe, but now the US is catching on too, with courier companies finding that cargo bike fleets significantly reduce emissions, save couriers time looking for parks and loading bays and keep employees fitter and healthier too boot.

A 10,000km trail following the east/west boarder that divided Europe during the Cold War is under construction. The Iron Curtain is particularly suited to a scenic bike route as it has been largely uninhabited for a long time and nature has had free reign.
