She won Australia’s first Paralympic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and was considered one of the brightest young stars of the Australian Paralympic movement.

Now, at just 28 years young, Paige Greco has been taken way too soon. Paige passed away in her Adelaide home after experiencing a sudden medical episode.

The Greco family released a statement, expressing their grief, shock and deep love for Paige. The statement reads –

“Paige meant everything to us. Her kindness, her determination and her warmth touched our family every single day. She brought so much joy and pride into our lives, and the pain of her passing is something we will carry forever.

“While we are devastated by her loss, we are incredibly proud of the person she was and the way she represented Australia.

“As a family, we are deeply grateful for the support shown by so many people connected to Paige, including her teammates and friends. Paige cherished the connections she made through her sport, and we take comfort in knowing how widely she was loved.

“We are grieving deeply and ask for privacy, time and space to navigate this overwhelming loss.”

Winning Olympic Gold in the women’s C1–3 3,000m individual pursuit in Tokyo, Greco was as thrilled as she was emotional. She also won three gold medals on the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup circuit. She also held multiple World Championship titles and World Cup medals, including a 2025 World Championship Road Race bronze.

Marne Fechner, the CEO of AusCycling, said all at the organisation are heartbroken by the tragic news.

“Paige was an extraordinary athlete who achieved outstanding accomplishments at the highest levels of our sport,” she said. “Much more than that, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her positive spirit and courageous outlook.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Paige’s family, friends, teammates, coaches and support staff, past and present, during this incredibly sad and difficult time.”

All at Bicycle Network and Ride On magazine offer our sincere condolences to the Greco family and those who knew and rode with Paige.
