One day until the adventure begins …

Thousands of bags and bikes. That’s what greeted many of the passer-bys at Melbourne’s Southern Cross station this morning. They belonged to the riders heading off on the adventure of a lifetime – the RACV Great Vic Bike Ride.

Some riders were suffering under the weight of their bags, tents and bike paraphernalia – others travelled light. As members of the Ride On team bustled about busily helping riders to get to their buses to Mount Gambier unscathed, there was definitely an air of excitement.

Many were excited to be on their first Great Vic and some knew the ropes – they’d ridden before.

One group of riders were hoping to achieve what their father had – he had ridden in 13 RACV Great Vic Bike Rides and was tackling his 14th this year. This was their first of many they assured us.

Others were readying themselves for the challenge of Lavers Hill – part of the Great Ocean Road – which boasts a very challenging hill ride for cyclists. But that challenge is a few days away yet.

Their first challenge, which many completed today, to make it to Mount Gambier on the right bus!

We wish the best of luck to all riders – we’ll keep you up to date with day 1 of the ride tomorrow.
