Tasmania’s Macey Stewart has won her third world championship title for 2014 after taking the win at the UCI World Road Championships U19 time trial in Spain on Monday. Congratulations Macey!
Bicycle Network and Bicycle Tasmania merge
Having enjoyed a close friendship for many years, Bicycle Network and Bicycle Tasmania have joined forces. Following a merger vote on 18 September, Bicycle Tasmania will now be known as Bicycle Network Tasmania and both organisations feel that the merger will broaden opportunities for bike advocacy in Tasmania and across Australia. “It’s a really exciting time for Bicycle Network and Bicycle Tasmania and this merger opens up so many new possibilities for us both,” said Bicycle Network CEO Craig Richards. “Tasmania has the potential to become a world leader for bike riding and bike riders and to make this happen we need to work closely with all Tasmanians—their local knowledge is a vital part of any future plans.”

2020 vision
Paris is aiming have bikes at 15% modal share by 2020. At a last count, bikes made up just 3% of all trips, but the city believes that by investing in new cycleways along key routes and converting underground car parks into end-of-trip bike facilities, it can reach its target.

In an effort to shine a spotlight on women who ride and to encourage more women to get pedalling, Elizabeth Plank, senior editor at .Mic has launched the #Ibikebecause campaign, encouraging women to share their reasons for riding.

Underground movement
Mega Cavern, a large-scale subterranean adventure playground in Lousiville, Kentucky, is constructing the world’s largest indoor mountain bike park, with 40 trails and a special ‘room’ just for jumps. The park is set to open on New Year’s Day 2015.
