Tested: MagicShine SeeMee 200 Version 3
The Magicshine Seemee 200 V3 is a compact, feature-rich light that shifts the focus from a simple red light to a more fluid, dynamic look, while also illuminating the motion of the bike rider ahead.
Beyond that, the SeeMee 200 ticks all the boxes we expect these days: a maximum output of 200 lumens, steady and flashing modes, USB-C charging, and a runtime of well over 100 hours in eco mode.
Additionally, the light features an in-built motion sensor that boosts output under braking, and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness depending on conditions.
But this light’s real point of difference is what MagicShine calls an ‘OptiTracing’ system: a secondary light that projects a wide arc of red light downward, behind the rider, onto the road surface.
Traditional rear lights rely on a fixed beam, a bright rear-facing beam that’s typically very visible, but also static. The Seemee adds movement to the rider ahead by illuminating the rear wheel, the rider’s legs and shoes, and crucially the pedalling motion. It creates a dynamic visual signature that’s far more recognisable to drivers. Instead of a flashing red dot, you are presented as a moving human form.
That distinction matters and feels very reassuring when riding in low light. At intersections, on poorly lit streets, or when viewed from an angle, the combination of downward illumination and a 260-degree visible beam defines shape, motion, and distance more clearly than a traditional rear light.
Operation is simple; the 3rd gen version adds ‘set and forget’ smart modes that automatically switch between day and night output.
Build quality is tidy, and the compact cube form factor integrates cleanly with most bikes. Plus the light is packaged into a neat 40g unit with flexible mounting options for seatposts or saddle rails.
It’s a feature-packed but compact light, and that shows in a few ways. At higher outputs, battery life drops faster, but for early-evening rides, I didn’t feel concerned or compromised.
That said, the Seemee 200 V3 isn’t trying to win a lumen or longevity war; its core strength lies in its combination of rearward and downward visibility factors.
