Two weeks after finishing third overall at the Giro d’Italia Donne, just months after recovering from major surgery, Sarah Gigante has been selected to ride the major women’s race of the year – the 2025 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

In trademark infectious style, Gigante was thrilled to finish her breakthrough event, securing her first Grand Tour podium place after winning two mountain stages of the race.

“I can’t believe how well this week went and never expected this,” she said after the Giro. “My main concern was just being able to compete again without pain,” she added.

Back In Form After A Long Break

Ride On magazine spoke with Sarah shortly before the Giro, with the 24yo Melbournian explaining the challenging year she’d had away from top-level racing.

“It took about seven months to return to racing after my surgery in early December,” she explained, saying it was a long and tedious rehab process.

“I started with no exercise at all, and then when I was allowed to introduce some walking, I had to keep my heart rate under 80 beats per minute and make sure not to go too far,” she said.

“It has certainly been a long road back to full training and then racing, but I had absolutely incredible support from the Victorian Institute of Sport, my coach Dylan Lindsey, my lovely Mum and my patient team, so it was not too bad, knowing every day was bringing me closer and closer to my goals.”
