Traffic speed remains steady as rider numbers soar on Melbourne’s Princes Bridge
The controversial three month trial that saw a car lane replaced with a bike lane on Melbourne’s arterial Princes Bridge has seen a 40% increase in rider numbers, and while some feared traffic would be slowed by as much as 20 minutes, the actual delay is less than a minute.

With the warmer weather bringing returning riders to the roads, Victoria Police will be on their bikes throughout October to ensure riders, pedestrians and motorists are sharing the road safely and responsibly. The initiative is celebrating its 30th year this year, making it the longest running road safety initiative in Australia.
